Journey
Kočí has established a strong position on the Czech, and especially Brno, art scene as the program director of the Open Studios Art Hub platform, which focuses on the systematic support of local art scenes; as a research assistant at the Institute of Architecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology; and above all as a contemporary visual artist with extensive international exhibition experience.

Practice
The artist’s current work pushes the boundaries of established abstract geometric painting into new dimensions of working with layering and space. This newly defined field allows for almost landscape-like renderings of textual statements, which the artist encodes into the works through a pre-designed system. In doing so, he defines the conceptual framework but no longer determines the final visual form, which becomes an essential part of the experimental process.

Exhibition Veilscape
A landscape behind a veil — this is a fitting loose translation of the current cycle of paintings and modular objects presented by Václav Kočí in the exhibition Veilscape at König Vlk Gallery.
Each work quietly cries out its meanings, all concealed beneath hidden layers of text. A single letter becomes a network of multiple fine layers that together form the spatial depth of the piece. The artist invites us to explore them, to patiently move beneath the surface of the image.
Here, the veil is not an obstacle, but an invitation — an opening to multiple ways of seeing.
